Lancaster University Students’ Union have this week confirmed they will allow society affiliations with local nightclub VIBE.

In a recent statement, Lancaster Students’ Union has confirmed that it has no policies to prevent student groups using VIBE nightclub and that although a “decision was made to no longer approve sponsorship agreements that involved GLOW [this] does not apply to any new operators.”

This confirmation comes after VIBE was advised by local authorities to cancel its launch event last week following a series of incidents that caused “significant damage” to the building. These incidents include a car being driven into the front of the venue and several windows being smashed at the rear entrance.

These incidents also forced the nightclub to postpone SKINT Monday the following week.

However, despite these setbacks, VIBE has confirmed that its Diwali event in collaboration with Lancaster University Indian Society tonight will being going ahead. Although some students have expressed safety concerns, Danny Goodwin (VP Societies & Media) has confirmed that the Students’ Union has “been in touch with the relevant society to ensure that they are comfortable and supported in advance of their event.”

The Students’ Union supports our cultural and faith groups to take their own lead on a diverse programme of festivals throughout the year in a range of venues both on campus and in town.

Goodwin also noted that “groups interested in using The Sugarhouse to host these celebrations, or other events, can get in touch via sugarhouse@lancastersu.co.uk

Lancaster University Indian Society has said it is “looking forward to celebrating Diwali at VIBE” and that it is “very happy to hear that VIBE is doing everything they can to put the safety and comfort of the people first.”

We are also pleased with the Students’ Union as it has allowed us to affiliate with VIBE and at the same time it has been looking out for us.

Following the Diwali celebrations this evening, VIBE’s official launch event will take place on Saturday 29th October. In a recent statement, VIBE expressed that the team is “delighted” to announce the launch and that VIBE is a “brand new company with new owners, new general manager, and new door supervisors.”

“We are proud to put people over profit and firmly believe safety is our number one priority. We’re excited to bring the best nightclub experience possible to Lancaster.”
